Where and when is the Mauna to Mauna Ultra 2022

The Mauna to Mauna Ultra 2022 will take place on Hawaii Island. Dates to be confirmed.

How much is the entry fee?

The entry fee is US$ 3,750 per individual


To register, please complete the online registration form in full. 

A deposit of US$1,000 is required to confirm your place in your nationality quota.

The Entry Fee balance is payable no later than four months before the race. In the event that the Entry Fee is not paid in full by this date, a penalty of US$200 is payable and any previously offered discount will be withdrawn so that the full fee becomes payable.

Alternatively the total amount of the Entry Fee may be paid in full at the time of the online application.

Should participants wish to register as a team, then each team member should note this on their application and provide the name of their team. Each team should consist of 3 team members. Please read the additional Rules Relating to Teams under Rules and Regulations. 


Pre-qualification is required for an entry to the Mauna to Mauna Ultra.
The minimum qualification for entry is as follows. Either

  1. A successful finish of the Grand to Grand Ultra and/or the Mauna to Mauna Ultra, or a multi-stage race OR
  2. A successful finish of two (2) 50km races prior to 31st December 2021 OR
  3. Accumulation of 6 UTMB points in the two (2) years immediately prior to 31st December 2021

Waiting List

In the event that your application is unsuccessful due to the available spots being previously filled, your name will then go on the waiting list without charge and in the order in which it is received. You will be notified if spots become available.


We are delighted to offer the following discounts:

* No discount can be combined with any other discount.
*In the event you enjoy a discount to the full fee, the deposit remains at US$1,000 with the discounted balance falling due on the second balance payment.

G2G/M2M Alumni

All persons who have previously signed up and paid in full for a previous Grand to Grand Ultra or Mauna to Mauna Ultra event are entitled to a 25% discount off the entry fee at M2M 2020. 

This discount can be combined with the "Bring A Friend" discount below.


Long time residents of the State of Hawaii are entitled to a special Kama'aina discounted rate of $2,900 (which excludes the hotel night after the event).  A copy of a Hawai'i drivers licence will be required to validate the resident discount.

Bring a Friend 

If you have participated in the Mauna to Mauna Ultra or the Grand to Grand Ultra before and then bring a friend with you, we will give you 20% off your entry fee. If you bring more than one friend with you, we will give you a 20% discount for each friend you bring. So if you bring five friends, your entry will be free!

Just be sure to have your friend put your name down on their online application under “How did you hear about this event?” for you to receive the benefit.

The friend has to be known by the M2M alumni before they submit their application and the friend’s name must be submitted in their online entry application.

In the event that the friend withdraws their application before paying for their entry fee in full, then the discount is also withdrawn.


All persons over the age of 65 will receive a discount of 10%.


All current serving and ex-military personnel will receive a discount of 10%. Please provide a copy of your military ID. 

Arrival and Departure - Hawaii Island

Participants will need to arrive on Hawaii Island no later than the Thursday before the start on the Sunday (However, we would encourage participants to arrive earlier in order to acclimatize)

What the Entry Fee Includes

Overnight Accommodations

For the evenings of:
Friday (before the start on the Sunday) through Friday of race week: space in a 10-man tent at roving camp site
Saturday (final day): hotel accommodation at the Official Event hotel (double room shared with another participant)

Ground Transportation

Friday (before the start on the Sunday): transport from Kona to Camp 1
Saturday (final day): transport from Finish Line to Official Event hotel

Food & Beverage

Friday: Lunch en route to Camp 1, Welcome Dinner at Camp 1
Saturday: Breakfast, lunch and Pre-Race dinner at Camp 1
Water for the duration of the race
Saturday (final day): Lunch at the finish line and Awards Party Dinner

Registration Deadline

Registration for 2022 will close on 28th February 2022, or earlier if quotas have been filled.

Cancellation Policy

All entry fees are non-transferrable and may not be deferred to any future events.

Withdrawal more than 120 days before the race start

Refund of monies paid, less $500 admin fee

Withdrawal less than 120 days before race start

No refund

Withdrawal due to medical reason only and more than 60 days before the race start

(must be supported by a doctor’s letter)

Deferral permitted on a one-time basis only, for the following year only and subject to a $200 deferral fee

Withdrawal due to medical reason , less than 60 days before the race start

No refund and no deferral allowed



For the Mauna to Mauna Ultra, the total number of participants will be limited to 150 and a quota is being imposed for each nationality as follows:

UTMB Points

M2M 2022 is expected to be a qualifying race for the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® (UTMB) 2023.

Mauna to Mauna Ultra 2017 was granted the maximum six (6) points for the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc® (UTMB) 2018.
